International Cooperation
The City of Yokohama and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are supporting the reconstruction of a nursery school in the city of Odesa in the UNDP’s first collaboration with a municipality outside Ukraine.(July 2024)
On 1st July, we welcomed the Director of the UNDP Representation Office in Tokyo, Hideko Hadzialic, and the UNDP Resident Representative to Ukraine, Jaco Cilliers, who joined us online to jointly announce, together with Mayor Yamanaka, the agreement between the City of Yokohama and UNDP on cooperation in reconstruction assistance in Ukraine.
This is the first time that UNDP has signed an agreement with a municipality (excluding municipalities in Ukraine) for cooperation in reconstruction assistance in Ukraine.
The City of Yokohama will actively promote its involvement in this cooperation, and the first project will be a Kindergarten in Odesa, which was damaged by the blast. The building will undergo restoration, and crowdfunding will be used to improve the school’s furniture and play equipment.
